Edwards edges it
An almost perfect week enabled Welsh wizard Lee Edwards (Preston Innovations) to top the list in the 2009 Preston Innovations festival at Cornwall bagging Mecca White Acres. A week of bad weather made the fishing difficult, but Edwards managed to find fish and consistency to post four section wins and a second in section to edge out current UK Champion Tommy Pickering (Preston Innovations). Pickering also had four section wins (36 points), but had fewer points to drop from his worst day, so lost out on the top slot. Edwards qualified for the Preston festival the previous week in the Maver competition, his first festival and kept up his good form to reach the £25,000 winner-take-all Parkdean Masters final. Edwards win is all the more sweet, as he was up against a who's who of big names, which saw former Masters winners Darren Cox (Garbolino) and Steve Ringer (Guru, Shimano, Dynamite Baits) finish third and fourth respectively. “It was a hard week, as the fishing was affected by the cold rain, which put them off the feed,” said Caerphilly-based Edwards. “I just fished to my strengths and hoped that I could the top 20.” The other big names qualifying for the change to win the big-money match were five-times world champion Alan Scotthorne andformer Masters winners Harry Billing and Des Shipp. Read more about White Acres Country Park in Cornwall...
