Steve Ringer is the true Master

Steve Ringer is the true Master

Shimano-backed commercial ace Steve Ringer has been crowned  the Parkdean Master of Masters. In a field of 10 of the best of this country's commercial anglers, all former Parkdean Masters winners, Ringer finished with 52-13-0 to walk away with a holiday to Las Vega with £250 spending money. He also gets to keep the Parkdean Masters trophy, as there will be a new one in 2010.

Drawn on Peg 1 on Eery Lake on Cornwall's White Acres complex, the 2003 winner fished two pole lines and a Method feeder to beat 2001 winner Harry Billing (peg 13), 42-14-0, into second place in the special anniversary event to celebrate 10 years of the annual £25,000 Parkdean event.

After making a slow start targeting the edge of the island in front on 6mm pellet, Ringer switched to the margin to his right and had 15 small carp on corn. Billing was catching in open water and down the edge regularly, but his fish were smaller, and as the match progressed it was difficult to call who had the upper hand.

The event turned when Ringer, who had resisted to compromise his inside line too early, finally switched to a small Method feeder, micro pellets and corn, and had six fish in six casts to the reeds to his far right. This put him in command, and although Billing continued to pick up small fish, a big fish, plus two or three more fish taken from each line, kept Ringer on top.

2007 Master's winner Des Shipp finished in third spot. After making a good start, he struggled in the second half of the match and finished with 36-12-0.

“It's a superb win. It's great to be able to keep the cup,” said ringer after being presented with the Vegas prize cheque and original Masters trophy. “It's great to finish a hard two weeks on a high, especially after the disappointment of the yestedays Masters final.”

“I'm really looking forward to Vegas,” he added.

Prior to the draw, White Acres fishery manager Clint Elliott thanked Parkdean's Steve Griffith for the company's support over the past 10 years and confirmed that holiday firm are continuing its sponsorship for the next decade.
